Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed: August 1, 2026
1. Our Commitment
Haven is committed to ensuring that its rental listing platform is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA across all pages of the platform. Accessibility is an ongoing effort and we welcome feedback to help us improve.
2. Standards & Scope
This statement applies to all pages served under the Haven domain, including the main listings page, the Section 8 & Housing Vouchers section, the Agent Portal, the Terms & Policy page, the Privacy Policy page, and this Accessibility Statement. It covers our service area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Our target standard is WCAG 2.1 Level AA, as referenced by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as applied to web-based services.
3. Accessibility Features
Haven has implemented the following accessibility features across the platform:
- Skip link — a "Skip to main content" link is present on every page and becomes visible on keyboard focus, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass navigation.
- Keyboard navigation — all interactive controls, including navigation links, buttons, form fields, listing cards, modal dialogs, tabs, and FAQ accordions, are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone.
- Landmark regions — pages use semantic structure and labeled regions to help screen reader users orient and navigate quickly.
- Focus management in modals — when a dialog opens, focus moves into it automatically; when it closes, focus returns to the element that triggered it.
- Screen-reader-friendly listing cards — each listing card communicates its price, address, bedroom count, and availability status to assistive technologies.
- Accessible FAQ accordion — FAQ items communicate their open and closed state to screen readers.
- Accessible tab panels — the Section 8 information tabs are fully navigable by keyboard and screen reader.
- Visible focus indicators — a high-contrast focus ring is applied to all interactive elements so keyboard users can always see where they are on the page.
- Live announcements — search result count updates are announced to screen readers without interrupting the user.
- Form labels — all form inputs are associated with visible labels.
4. Known Limitations
We are aware of the following accessibility issues and are actively working to resolve them:
- Skip-link target mismatch on the home page — the skip link on the home page targets
#main-content; on some browsers the scroll and focus behaviour may not land precisely at the start of the main landmark. This is under investigation. - Incomplete axe-core audit items — automated testing with axe-core has flagged certain elements as "needs review" (colour contrast on the hero overlay and some dynamic content regions). Manual review is in progress to confirm or resolve each item.
- Focus trap in the Terms & Policy overlay — the inline Terms & Policy overlay that opens from the registration form does not yet fully trap focus; keyboard users may be able to tab outside the dialog. A fix is planned.
If you encounter an accessibility barrier not listed above, please let us know using the contact method described in Section 5.
5. Feedback & Contact
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Haven. If you experience difficulty using any part of our platform, or if you find a barrier that prevents you from accessing content, please tell us by using the Report a problem form in the site footer.
When reporting an accessibility barrier, please include:
- The page or feature where you encountered the issue.
- A description of what you were trying to do and what happened instead.
- The assistive technology and browser you were using, if applicable.
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days and to resolve confirmed barriers as quickly as practicable.
